Downloading & Installing
Adobe Acrobat Reader
The free Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to view, navigate, and print
PDF files across all major computing platforms. Acrobat Reader is the
free viewing companion to Adobe Acrobat 3.0 and to Acrobat Capture(R)
software.
Acrobat 3.0 offers integrated viewing of PDF files directly within the
leading Web browsers, including Netscape Navigator 3.0 or greater and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3.0 or greater. Rather than waiting 5 or more minutes for an
entire PDF document to download, this feature enables page-at-a-time
downloading for incredibly fast display of PDF files.
To download this terrific software for FREE, click the Acrobat
Reader button below.
Once you have the Acrobat Reader installed on your machine, copy the
"PDFViewer" plug-in (from the "Web Browser Plug-in folder" located in
the downloaded Adobe Acrobat 3.0 folder) to the "Plug-Ins" folder of
your browser. Then, check your browser's preferences to ensure that it
is configured as follows:
Netscape 3.0 or greater
- In the "Options Menu," click "General Preferences."
- Click the "Helpers" tab.
- Double click on the helper named "Portable Document Format" or
"PDF."
- The "MIME Type" should be: "application/pdf."
The "Suffix"
should be: "pdf." "Handled By" should be: "Plug-in: PDFViewer"
- Click "OK," and then click "Apply."
Explorer 3.0 or greater
- Click "Preferences."
- Click the "Helpers" tab.
- Double click on the helper named "Portable Document Format" or
"PDF."
- The "MIME Type" should be: "application/pdf."
The "Suffix"
should be: "pdf." "How to Handle" should be: "Use Helper
Application." "Helper Application" should be: "PDFViewer" plug-in.
- Click "OK."
If Adobe Acrobat Reader has been installed on your machine and your Web
browser has been configured properly, downloading PDF files should
automatically open the Reader within your browser. Simply click on the
arrow keys on the control bar to browse the pages of the PDF document.
If you are experiencing any difficulty, consult Adobe's Web Site for more information
and instructions on how to use the Acrobat Reader.
