FPB 64-Second Series Underway

With Iron Lady cruising in Tonga and Osprey about to head off to Australia, attention has turned to the second series of FPB 64s.

The framing for FPB 64-5 is shown above and below. Construction on six will start n a few months, with seven, now under contract to follow. That leaves FPB 64-8 still available. For more information contact Todd Rickard.

Steve, with the current oil prices and the most pessimistic predictions of increasing oil prices to reach as much as $200 a barrel in the near future what are your thoughts regarding the future of passagemeking under power. Are you thinking to further develop your sailboat designs?

    Hi Nicolas:
Although we’d rather not pay such high prices for oil (and the other items that are going to follow this trend) the overall cost is not that great. Even at US$200 per barrel it will still be cheaper to cruise under power than sail. And then we have the option of slowing down to 9.7/10 knots which could easily save 15/20% on mileage.
