Cape Verdes bound for Argentina - 8 Oct
by Kate Laird

11 48 S
38 48 W

Not such a good day's run yesterday. Just 160 miles, but still good progress for the tropics. Still unbelievably hot. Just typing makes me sweat! Never mind shaking out reefs and putting them back in again, which is part of the reason we didn't have such a good run yesterday. The thought of shaking out a reef for an hour or two is not to be considered. Hamish is much braver than I am when it comes to adjusting the sail plan, but even he has slowed down over his usual pace.

Big, choppy, rolly seas, meaning we still can't open the hatches, even though the wind is behind the beam.

Did I say it was hot? I worried that we would adjust to it too much, but there have been no signs of adjustment so far!

Hamish and Helen and Anna saw a whale breach five times yesterday! The first whale we've seen in ages.
