Getting into the Routine

Family and friends:

It's our third full day at sea and we are all falling into some sort of routine. Each one has his or her own.

Paula has been catching up on her beauty sleep. By the time we reach Tahiti, she should fall into the supermodel category.

Dale has been specializing in breakfasts. He makes up a mean toast and honey and an equally killer bowl of muesli. He has been in hog heaven playing with all the electronic toys and "tweaking" stuff.

Phyllis and Steve have been doing a lot of cooking and seem to be enjoying being disconnected from their corporate lives, and the rest of the world for that matter.

MaiTai has been keeping a sharp lookout for fish and noshing on whatever the sea gods toss up on deck. Today she enjoyed the legs of a nice big squid and turned her nose up at a rather dry flying fish.

I have fallen into a routine of wake up, fix something, coffee, fix something, breakfast, nap, lunch, fix something, nap, cappuccino, dinner, sleep, do a watch and then sleep some more.

The good news is that most everything is working pretty well, and if it isn't, we have redundancy.

Sailing conditions continue to be excellent. Cool at night, warm during the day. We have a gentle ten foot swell from the Southwest and 12 to 21 knots of breeze from the Northwest. We logged 209 miles from noon to noon and our position was 36 deg. 34 min. South by 173 deg. 04 min West. We haven't changed a sail or changed tack since we left Auckland. Under working sails last night we hit 11.1 knots in a 21 knot breeze.

We were greeted by our first pod of dolphins of the trip this morning, who stayed with us for 15 minutes or so and then moved on.

So far, the passage has been as we like them, uneventful.

Ciao, George, Paula, Dale, Phyllis, Steve and MaiTai
