Family and Friends:
Ever since we made the left turn northward yesterday we have been sailing closer to the South Pacific High (pressure area) and the winds have been steadily decreasing and the temperature steadily rising. We carried our spinnaker through the night, but the winds finally crapped out this afternoon and we had to fire up the cast iron genoa. We managed to make 131 miles, noon to noon, where we were at 32 deg. 43 min. South by 155 deg. 27 min. West.
We had a brilliant day. A night of easy sailing found us all well rested this morning. During his watch this morning, Dale put out the fishing line shortly after sunrise and at about 0830, I was filleting a 35-pound big eye tuna. MaiTai was ecstatic as she chowed down on the little scraps I tossed her way.
The sea state was calm enough for us to do some necessary wash and housecleaning in between enjoying some nice breaks in the warm weather. Warm enough for a round of iced frappuccinos in the blender this afternoon.
Tonight we will be taking full advantage of the catch of the day. Sushi and sashimi, sake, and ichiban of tuna are on the menu tonight.
At the time of this writing, we have about 660 miles to go to Raivavae, which should put us there on Wednesday or Thursday.
Aloha for now, George, Paula, Phyllis, Steve, Dale and MaiTai
