Driftwood or Duck?
September 13, 2007
by Michel & Jane DeRidder

We were sitting in the cockpit on a calm morning enjoying a cup of coffee. What looked like a piece of wood was floating by us slowly. Intrigued, I asked Jane: "Is that driftwood a duck?"

"I don't know, I'll look at it with my glasses on" she answered. She put on her glasses. I grabbed the binoculars. "It's a duck," Jane said, and I could see it too with the binoculars.

Then in her best of duck speak, with a suitable accent and volume, Jane called the visitor: "CWAACK, CWAAACK, CWACK"

The duck woke up, perked up its head in astonishment, looking in all directions for the caller, leaving us in no doubt about its identity as a duck. We fell into a fit of laughter from hearing Jane's brilliant call and seeing the duck's startled surprise.

As the duck floated on by we tried to capture the encounter in pictures, but did not quite get the astonished look the duck displayed after Jane's call.
