Summer 2002
Greenland's East Coast - 12Aug02
by Dave & Jaja

Hi SetSail,

We got away from Iceland on the 6th of August. We waited ten days for a good weather forecast and we were rewarded with a near perfect passage to Greenland. 5 to 15 knots from the north with calm seas. Made it in 5 days.

We started see BIG icebergs about 30 miles from the Greenland coast. At ten miles from the coast the ice was spread thickly but we could weave our way without too much trouble. Some of the bergs were a quarter mile long and hundreds of feet high. Awesome. We made landfall on the east coast at a place called Prins Christian Sund. The channel is littered with ice chunks but we found a safe place to anchor.

We are currently dinner guests at the at the weather station. Hot showers and the works. We will laze around southern Greenland until next week then plan a passage to Newfoundland.

Bye for now, Dave & Jaja
